Today, American society is draining far, even from the basic concepts of equality, especially for the Black community. Though there are promises of equality and justice embedded in the fabric of the nation, many Black Americans find themselves struggling to attain the same level of rights and privileges as their white counterparts in the country. This is not fair! Are white people more human than blacks? Is this the case? A lot of Americans, and in fact, even the outer world, believe in the idea that America is a dreamland and there is equality everywhere; yes, indeed, it is, but only for white people. The struggle of black people is not just historical but ongoing, reflecting deep-seated issues of racism and discrimination that persist in modern America.
The fight for equality has been a relentless journey for Black Americans. But why? What are the root causes of this outcome? Despite significant progress over the decades, the remnants of systemic racism continue to obstruct true equality. It is actually in the system. A system run by the white supremacists. The idea that equality is something to be achieved and then maintained is misleading. Instead, we all know equality is a continuous journey, one that ebbs and flows with the waves of societal change.
For many Black Americans, recognizing and achieving equality requires constant struggle and advocacy. They have to go through a lot just to achieve a simple task, and that’s just because they are black. It is nothing but open discrimination on the basis of color. It’s a fight that involves challenging systems of power and demanding that the rights and privileges afforded to others are extended to them as well.
The only times the Constitution has worked in favor of Black Americans are when they have taken ownership of its promises by making sure that black rights and privileges are imposed in an appropriate manner. This ownership is crucial, as those drunk with power have historically shown a willingness to rob and murder to maintain their dominance. The rich and influential manipulate laws and policies to practice their power in ways that exclude and oppress Black communities. This is sheer injustice not only towards a targeted community but to all humanity.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
-Martin Luther King
To fight this, Black Americans must continue to live bravely both as individuals and as a community. They must be aware of their rights and privileges and be prepared to defend them.
In the mission for equality, it is imperative to stay informed, engaged, and proactive. One has to be on the toes to fight for justice and equality.
